What is Ta Xua, Vietnam?
Ta Xua is a high H’Mong commune in Son La province, about 240 km northwest of Hanoi, known for grassy ridges that rise out of a sea of cloud. It is five to six hours by car, so dawn there takes at least one night. A local guide reads the forecast, chooses the right track and explains how families live from the old tea trees.
On our tours the fees, your room and the listed meals are included, so you pay only for your drinks, shopping and any tip.

Questions people ask before booking
Is Ta Xua worth visiting?
Yes, if you want big mountain views and do not mind a long road. The ridges and the tea forest are the reason to come, and they hold up even without cloud. It is not worth the trip for one photo: the sea of clouds depends on the weather, and on a clear or misty morning you may not see it.
How far is Ta Xua from Hanoi?
About 240 km, or five to six hours by car with stops, through Son Tay, Phu Tho and Bac Yen. The last 15 km climb from Bac Yen on a narrow mountain road with many tight bends. That is why our tours start at 07:00 and reach Ta Xua in daylight.
What exactly is included in the price?
Private car with driver, a licensed local guide who speaks fluent English, hotel pickup and drop-off anywhere in central Hanoi, your room at a Ta Xua lodge, the meals listed on each tour, all viewpoint fees and the motorbike taxi on the last track if you want it. The only things not included are personal shopping, drinks beyond those listed, travel insurance and optional tips.
Can I cancel or reschedule?
Free cancellation up to 21 days before departure for a full refund, with free date changes up to then, subject to availability. From 21 to 14 days before, 50% of the hotel cost is charged because the rooms are held for you. Within 14 days, including no-shows, 30% of the tour price is kept as the deposit.
Can the tour be tailored for children, older parents or our own interests?
Yes, every itinerary can be adjusted. Tell us who is travelling and what you enjoy, and we will change the stops and the pace to suit. The real challenge is the uneven path and steep slopes at Dinosaur Spine, so anyone can stop at the first hump or see the cloud from Wind Peak instead.
How do I pay, and when?
Two ways: pay the full price online by card or PayPal, or pay a 30% deposit online and the rest in cash on the first day of the tour, in US dollars or Vietnamese dong. We can also send a secure payment link on WhatsApp. The booking is confirmed once the online payment goes through, and your pickup time, guide’s name and lodge name arrive in writing.
How far ahead should I book?
A week or more, because your lodge room has to be held, and earlier for weekends and holidays in the busy months from October to April, when Ta Xua lodges fill up. Message us and we will tell you honestly what is still open.
